about

'Woodshed'- woodshedding, (of a musician) 'to' practise in private.

Going by the new name of 'The Woodshedder' James Macdonald's 'Trampoline' is designed to be a musical autobiography, with the songs tracking through childhood, to the present, and beyond. "I love the early albums of The Moody Blues, 'Days of Future Past' and 'In Search of the lost Chord' in particular, and I've borrowed from them the feeling of 'high concept' within the group of songs. XTC's album 'Apple Venus' was also an influence with it's lush, and very English use of orchestration".

Praise for James Macdonald's previous work!

'Believe in You'

“Devastatingly melodic and richly harmonic it beguiles often with unforced, well-sung tunes of near perfect pop sensibility, echoing the likes of Crowded House, Matthew Sweet, Elliot Smith, Nilsson, and, as is being touted by the label, Brian Wilson, mid-period Beatles and Todd Rundgren.” - Glenn A. Baker.

'Elevator Music for Unrequited Lovers'

Australian James Macdonald's sophomore album is a perfect example of sophisticated power-pop, his velvety voice beautifully complemented by complex instrumentation and chiming guitars. File under Rundgrenesque. 3.5 / 5 Uncut Magazine, UK

'Naked Soul'

James Macdonald's
third solo album sets the bar high and then soars over it. His sunny,
melodic pop fits into a stream from Paul McCartney to Neil Finn, songs with
sturdy skeletons and a certain light-filled vocal style which is winning in
every aspect.
8 stars, Financial Review.

* Make sure you check out James's other project with Michael Ingvarson, the retro-futuristic electro pop duo 'jazzflutespaceman', coming soon on Bandcamp.
